No, seriously. I have no idea who this woman is, but if she’s as bad as this picture says she is, then you’re so much worse. People will say things they regret, or perhaps you won’t like what they say.

But what I find most disturbing, given the content and theme of your page, is the fact that you’ve continually hounded this girl when the subject could have just been dropped after a few giggles.

Instead, she’s the subject of your consistent berating. Assuming you’re here to raise awareness towards the silliness surrounding pushing people into the “girl gamer” stereotype, I would like to point out that this behavior that keeps showing up on my stream is just as bad as this behavior. While I do enjoy the other things you post, this has gotten to the point where the persistent negativity towards someone I don’t even know has tarnished much of the work that many communities, individuals and I have done to raise awareness about online harassment towards women in the video game industry.

It got old when it started.

reblogging for the above commentary. there’s a gigantic whiff of “one of the boys syndrome” coming from people who hate on girls that post pictures like this. Hate the fact that women are valued disproportionately for their appearance and desirability to straight males over anything else, not the women who fall into the trap :/

HELLO! Another delicious pokémon-related post from Lee!This time regarding the fabulously sleek fighting-type creature named Mienshao!

The Martial Arts Pokémon <3

Training strategy:

EV training- Attack 252, Speed 252, SpAttack 4. Ability: Regenerator.

Moveset:

U-Turn, Hi Jump Kick, Fake Out, Knock Off

U-Turn can be used if things aren’t going your way, and restores 33% of Mienshao’s HP too when it switches out! :)

Hi Jump Kick is just an amazingly powerful move, but if it misses, U-Turn outta there the next turn! >.<

Fake Out is one of my favourite moves ever, and is used if you spot an immedeate fast threat that can be taken out or paralyzed/put asleep by your team-mate~

Knock off is a gimmick move can be changed, I just would use it to annoy walls with Leftovers or Lum Berries.

I’m not judging, because hey I am guilty of this too, but it’s crazy how much people reinterpret the same trait in a totally different light because of gender (what poupon was saying). In terms of Miranda - I bet some people would find her qualities more appealing on a dude than a lady, because as a lady they find her bitchy, bossy, threatening, etc. while a dude would be considered cocky and fabulous. Arrogant males are for whatever reason more palatable to most people than arrogant women.

On the other hand, all of Jacob’s admirable qualities are totally predictable and boring on a dude, but for some reason a woman who is skilled and loyal and tough is some sort of phenomenon that we are drawn to, when in a perfect world it should be something we’re used to seeing in games/fiction/everywhere.

I know right it’s kind of weird but also really interesting that it affects perception that much.

I have a feeling I’d like them both better sexswapped. She-Jacob would be kind of… Zoe-ish, wouldn’t she? And I’m sure I’d STILL be fanjizzing over Man-Anda just because… well, the inconsequential reason that I’m a little bored by a “perfect” woman, leader, etc etc who deep down is so self conscious and soft and emotional* (I’d have liked her better if they explored the body horror aspect of it but, they didn’t) but it’s fresh and new-er with a man? Also, man in a white catsuit.

* On this note, both Jack and Miranda are both hardasses with soft fluffy centers aren’t they? That seems to be one of my eye-roll triggers these days in terms of tropes. I think that’s why I like Morrigan so much: she melts a little for you but in the end sticks to her stone cold bitch guns.

Yeah I would completely like them better too, I won’t lie. And ahhhh you’re right Jacob would be Zoe hahaha, that would be extremely appealing to me! Although the whole Ashley and Jacob similarity thing - I didn’t find either of their characters very interesting, and I really do think they’re very similar. There’s nothing wrong with them, and they are totally full characters on their own, but I think the issue is that they have a hard time competing with the more extraordinary characters you interact with. Ashley and Jacob are sort of the “everyman” team member, which is great, but has the unfortunate side effect of making them fade into the background by comparison.

Also I would be ALL over a Manranda that shows you his sensitive side, haha. It’s a huge trope but it’s a weakness of mine. But you’re completely right about it being more annoying in a female character, just because of the assumption that ALL women, regardless of how tough they are, are just waiting for a shoulder to cry on and a man to rescue them. It’s more refreshing on dudes, because that assumption doesn’t exist. And also YESSS that is why Morrigan is great, I loved how she didn’t pull a one-eighty at the end, but still showed obvious development.

NOW I WILL TALK ABOUT JACK’S CHARACTERIZATION UNTIL THE END OF TIME

The great thing about Jack is that on her own, she doesn’t have a soft, chewy center. If she were a guy, she’d be just this asshole skinhead that you can easily push aside but she’s a girl so most people are like… what do I even do with this asshole. Even as a woman, most people are like what do I do with a problem like Jack, but that’s an intentional part of her character and not just a product of being some easily dismissible fuckass.

The ungreat thing about Jack is that that only applies if you decide not to have a relationship with her. If you do want some sweet, virtual convict lovin’ and romance her she pulls a Naoto—meaning she changes too much of what she is for me to ever be comfortable with, because she thinks that’s what Shepard wants to see. She even has the line, “I’m trying” (RE: being a calmer “better” person) which is unique to the romantic path. Normally make I’d go “good on you for attempting to mature the fuck up”, but this way? This way is wrong. It’s wrong because she only says it to a man who has romantic designs on her. It makes it seem less like she’s trying to change because she doesn’t like who she is and more like she’s trying to change because she doesn’t think someone else likes her, which is pretty contrary to her character! Hell, it’s contrary even at the most basic level, the character design!

I’ve written stuff about her design before so I don’t want to be all repeating myself, but suffice to say that down to her very character design Jack is all about dressing and acting the way she sees fit and not how other people want her to be. She’s about being demonstrative/exhibitionistic not to allure and attract the gaze, but to repel and intimidate. It’s really a pretty brilliant character design because it fits her personality so well. Would it work as well as a guy? Would a skinny-ass, nearly naked dude be as repelling as a woman? Can’t say for sure until I draw it.

ALSO since I believe someone mentioned Merrill, I just gotta say that I am a firm believer that Merrill should have been a guy. I mean, if only for the reason that her character archetype has been so well explored in female characters but you don’t see a lot of moe moe Cloud Cuckoolander men. Also, she has the listening skills of a teenage boy.

Personally, I’d read her less as a naive indigo child type and more as a marginally insane guy if she were a dude, which is pretty fun. AND THE POINT OF THIS DERAIL ISSSSS Jack’s interesting because you don’t see her personality type in a lot of female characters and because it meshes with her design, and Merrill is kind of dull because she’s a lady you do see a lot. Ain’t got no real opinion on the functionality of her design one way or another.

Also I am in full support of a plethora of catsuited Manrandas. Jump on this bandwagon before it’s gone, good people of the internet!

I am too braindead today to actually participate in this wonderful conversation, but I just wanted to say it makes me really happy whenever it pops up on my dash. :) And I am totally drawing Manranda as soon as finals start to wind down.

I’d talk about Garrus’s romance and how fantastic I think it is that he’s actually the more fragile one in the whole relationship, but I cannot articulate it into words that aren’t all blah and convoluted. Maybe later….

Far too sleepy and inarticulate to contribute anything worthwhile to this thread. Miranda’s embodiment of the ‘perfect female, constructed by a man’ is something I found very strange and sort of sickening. I wish it had been played up more or discussed in-game. Imagine a man in a tight white cat-suit explaining his impossibly good looks away with that particular explanation? ‘evil mother genetically engineering a super sexy son.’ yeeeuch.
